A diamond is a precious gem. Where does it start?

Coal was formed years ago when the earth was covered with vast swampy forests where plants – giant ferns, reeds, and mosses – grew. In time, there was a thick layer of dead plants rotting in the swamp. The dead plant matter decays into peat and is converted into coal by the heat and pressure of deep burial over millions of years.

Take these lumps of carbon-based life forms, add 1 billion to 3.3 billion years, and due to the immense pressure as well as the extreme temperatures, a diamond gradually begins to form.

Uncut rough diamonds are cubic shaped and resemble water-worn quartz pebbles.

An uncut diamond is a stone that has not been shaped in any particular form by a professional cutter and has not undergone any polishing. Uncut diamonds are also referred to as rough diamonds (or raw diamonds). Diamonds are rare and valuable, the hardest known natural substance.

Are you God’s Diamond in the Rough? God created and formed you in His image. Spiritually in this swampy world, you were like the dead, decaying carbon-based plants. Then you were converted by believing in Jesus into God’s coal. Now over time, through pressure, heat, trials, and troubles, you were changed into God’s Diamond. This uncut gem was shaped into a Christian by the Master cutter and underwent an immense polishing. He smoothed off the rough edges making the rare and valuable person that you were meant to be. A diamond may be the hardest known natural substance, but a Christian’s strength comes from belief, faith, and trust in God.

David’s Praise to the Lord:

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.    Psalm 139:14
